Pepperstone proxy setup for MetaTrader and cTrader
The short answer
Set up MetaTrader 4 (MT4), MetaTrader 5 (MT5) or cTrader for Windows with Traders Proxy in four values. In MetaTrader, your terminal connects to Pepperstone through our server in your broker’s city. In cTrader for Windows, you connect over an HTTP proxy in Settings > Connection.
Does Pepperstone allow a proxy on your account? Check before you connect.
Warning. Check the Pepperstone rules first
Read Pepperstone’s client agreement and trading rules before you connect. Traders Proxy doesn’t change what your broker allows. If your broker prohibits proxies, don’t use one.
Pepperstone sees one steady address, our server’s, shared with other Traders Proxy customers. It stays the same on any network you connect from, so changing network doesn’t show Pepperstone a new address. It changes if you change your broker’s city or we replace a server.
Only the app you set up uses Traders Proxy. Everything else stays on your normal internet, so your plan’s data goes on trading.
How do I find my Pepperstone trade server? Its city decides which city you pick.
Our server helps on its connection to your broker, so it needs to be in your trade server’s city. These steps find that city.
Find the server name and its city
- 01
Open the login window
In MetaTrader 4, choose File, then Login. In MetaTrader 5, choose File, then Login to Trade Account.
- 02
Read the server name
The server box shows the trade server your account uses. Write the name down exactly, because support needs it to find the city.
- 03
Ask Pepperstone which city it is in
Send Pepperstone support the server name and ask. In which city is this server? Keep the reply, it tells you which city to pick in your dashboard.
We found no city on Pepperstone’s own pages, so we don’t name one for you.
Which Traders Proxy city should I pick? The one your Pepperstone server is in.
In the Connect section of your dashboard, choose Change your broker’s city. Pick the city Pepperstone gave you, then choose Use this city. Your four values stay the same, so there is nothing to change in MetaTrader.
Our server cities lists where we are. If Pepperstone names a city we don’t list, pick the nearest one.
If you are not sure, pick your best guess and test it. You can switch in your dashboard, and we never move you without asking. Restart MetaTrader to move an open connection to the new city at once.
What does a server in your broker’s city change? Lost pieces are replaced locally.
When you click Buy, your order crosses the internet to your broker as small pieces of data. If the internet loses a piece, your computer sends it again and everything behind it waits. In a busy moment, that wait can delay an order or trigger a disconnect, and distance makes it longer.
Our server in your broker’s city puts the port your platform uses first when a server is busy and clears dead sockets so your platform can reconnect. Any lost piece is replaced locally, so your order waits on a short connection.
This helps only if you picked your broker’s city. We don’t promise lower ping. Distance sets the minimum. We publish no measured gain for any broker, so time it yourself with our connection check.
How do I connect MetaTrader through our server? Enter four values.
Four steps in MetaTrader
- 01
Copy the four values
In your dashboard, pick the server nearest you under Connect. Then open Your values for your platform, choose the MT4 or MT5 tab and copy the rows. The login and password belong to Traders Proxy, so you never share your Pepperstone login with us.
- 02
Open the proxy setting
In MetaTrader 4 or 5, choose Tools, then Options. Open the Server tab, tick Enable proxy server, then choose Proxy. This setting changes MetaTrader only, not the rest of your computer.
- 03
Enter the values
Choose
SOCKS5as the type, as the Type row in your dashboard shows. MetaTrader 5 takes the server and port in one box, with a colon between them. In MetaTrader 4, enter them as the box asks. - 04
Test it and save
Choose Test, then OK. If the terminal does not reconnect, close it and open it again. Check that prices are moving in Market Watch, so you know it works before you trade.
Can’t find the Proxy button? Some broker-branded terminals may hide it, so try the standard MetaQuotes build. Each platform’s maker decides which of its connections use its proxy setting.
Can I use it with cTrader or TradingView Desktop? Yes, on the same plan.
Both have their own proxy setting, so one plan can cover them too, within your device limit. For cTrader, only the HTTP type is confirmed. We make no claim about your broker’s city for either, cTrader connects through its maker’s own servers, and TradingView doesn’t say. Our cTrader guide and TradingView Desktop guide have the steps.
Why compare it before you decide? Your own numbers count more than our word.
You do not need to take our word for it. In a busy session, time how long MetaTrader takes to connect and show live prices, direct and then through us. If the times match, you don’t need us. Stop renewal in your dashboard before your renewal date and you keep access to the end of the period you paid for. If your platform can’t connect through us and support can’t fix it, we refund your first payment within 7 days on a monthly plan, or 14 days on a yearly plan or Founder 50. This doesn’t affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
What else do Pepperstone traders ask?
Frequently asked questions
Which city should I select for Pepperstone?
Select the city Pepperstone support gives you for your account’s trade server. We found no city on Pepperstone’s own pages, so we don’t name one.
Will a proxy change my Pepperstone spreads?
No. Pepperstone sets your spreads and prices. A proxy only changes where your platform connects. It does not change them.
Can I connect TradingView Desktop through Traders Proxy?
TradingView Desktop has a proxy setting under Settings, then Network. See our TradingView Desktop guide. We make no claim about which of its connections use the setting.

Generic or free proxies fail MetaTrader's proxy Test button
“Server — enter here the IP address and port number of the server separated by a colon. To the right of this field, select the type of proxy server: HTTP, SOCKS4 or SOCKS5. In HTTP mode, NTLM authentication is also supported”
How our system handles it. Use SOCKS5 or HTTP, whichever your platform offers. Enter our server, login and password in MetaTrader’s own Proxy window.

HTTPproxy loginSupporting
Where it stops. MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 support SOCKS5 and HTTP (not SOCKS4). A passing Test confirms the route reaches our server.
MT5's own Proxy box overwrites, empties or refuses to save what you type
“I click on Enable proxy server -> Proxy ... -> Give my server , login . password , sock5 Then when i press test or ok , it doesnt go anywhere at all. The cursor goes back to the server field. I tried the same setting on my local computer , it is working fine.”
Why a proxy does not change this. We change nothing on your computer. The server, login and password go into your platform's own Proxy setting.
- Only the app you set up is routedBoundary
Where it stops. We change nothing on your computer. If a MetaTrader 5 build fails to save its proxy dialog, we cannot repair the terminal window itself.
The platform's proxy setting does not cover everything (WebRequest, MQL5.community, Market)
“Using a SOCKS proxy in a browser, I can access the site without issues. Using the same proxy in the terminal, I still can't log in.”
Why a proxy does not change this. Only the trading app you set up uses Traders Proxy. Everything else stays on your normal internet.
- Only the app you set up is routedBoundary
Where it stops. Only the trading app you set up uses Traders Proxy. Expert Advisor web calls, custom DLLs and Market downloads may still use your normal internet.
Order timeouts, 3-minute hangs, 'Off quotes' and 'No connection' when closing
“10031 TRADE_RETCODE_CONNECTION No connection with the trade server”
Why a proxy does not change this. Traders Proxy doesn't change spreads, fills or requotes.
Where it stops. Off quotes, Requote and order timeouts are decided by your broker’s server, not by the proxy route.
