MT4 server location lookup, find your broker’s server city
The short answer
Find the city hosting your broker’s MetaTrader 4 (MT4) trade server to choose the matching proxy node. Read the server address in MT4, then run nslookup and a geolocation query for a city-level hint. Your broker’s technical support desk provides the definitive location.
Your broker’s support gives the firm answer, the rest give hints
Why it matters. The city decides which of our servers connects to your broker. The table shows how far each way of finding it can be trusted.
| Method | What you get | Its limit |
|---|---|---|
| Ask your broker’s support | The city, from the source | You wait for a reply |
| Read the broker’s own pages | A published city | Not every broker publishes one |
| The server list in MetaTrader 4 | The server’s address | An address, not a place |
| nslookup and a location lookup | A city-level estimate | It can be wrong, and it never names a building |
| A traceroute | City hints in router names | Not every router has a name |
Start by asking your broker’s support desk which city hosts the trade server for your specific account. Where brokers say their servers are lists confirmed broker server locations with verification dates.
Five steps give you a city-level hint while you wait for support
- 01
Read the server’s address in MetaTrader 4
Choose File → Open an Account. MetaQuotes says this list shows each server’s address, name and ping, the time data takes there and back. The address is what the later steps look up.
Close the window without opening an account. If the list shows only a server name, use the next step, because a name is a label, not an address.
- 02
Or read it from your computer
On Windows, connect the platform. Note the terminal’s PID in Task Manager’s Details tab. Then run
netstat -n -oin Command Prompt and read the foreign address on that PID’s row.Use this way for MetaTrader 5. If the terminal has several rows, look up each address. If your platform already uses a proxy, the list shows the proxy’s address.
- 03
Turn a name into a number
If the address is a name, run
nslookup SERVER_ADDRESS, without the port. It returns the IP address behind the name, which is what a location lookup needs. - 04
Look up the location
Enter the IP address in an IP location lookup, such as MaxMind’s GeoIP demo. Note the city and the network name it reports. That city is your first guess at which of ours to pick.
- 05
Check it against a trace
Trace the path to the address and read the last few router names. They can hint at a city, which backs up or questions the lookup.
A location lookup points to an area, never a building
To a city, at best. MaxMind, a lookup provider, says it cannot guarantee accuracy. It also says its data never locates a street address (MaxMind on accuracy).
So read the result as an area, such as the London area, and never as a building. If two addresses, or the lookup and the trace, disagree, your broker’s answer decides.
With the matching city, lost data is recovered inside your broker’s city
Traders Proxy works with any platform that has a proxy setting, including MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, TradingView Desktop and Optuma. Each platform’s maker decides which of its connections use that setting.
Everything behind lost data waits, and distance makes the wait longer (the internet standard). Our server opens a local connection to your broker and recovers lost data inside your broker’s city.
What it means for you. When data drops near your broker, your order waits on a short local link inside that city.
Local recovery applies only to the link between our server and your broker. Your connection to our server travels over your normal internet. We do not promise lower ping because physical distance sets the floor.
A backtest runs on your own machine, so no internet link can lose a piece of data during a news release. In live trading, one lost piece holds up every price update and order behind it. Everything waits while your computer sends it again across the world.
You cannot paste four values into your platform while your chart is already frozen in a live trade. Set it up today while the market is calm. Then time it on your own screen during the next release.
Pick your broker’s city in your dashboard, and change it whenever you need to
- 01
Open Connect in your dashboard
Sign in and find Your broker’s city.
- 02
Choose Change your broker’s city
Pick the city your broker’s server is in.
- 03
Choose Use this city
You can change it again in your dashboard.
Your four values stay the same. Your platform moves to the new city when it next reconnects, so restart it to move now.
Not sure yet? A wrong guess costs you only a change, so pick your best guess and change it when support replies. Your broker then sees the address of our server in the new city.
If your broker’s city is not listed, do not start a plan because local recovery requires a node in that city. Check our server cities to confirm availability. If your broker prohibits proxies, do not use one.
Frequently asked questions
Is the MT4 server name the same as its address?
No, the name in your login window is a label your broker chose. MetaQuotes says File → Open an Account lists each server’s address in MetaTrader 4. If yours shows only names, read the address from your computer’s connection list.
Can a lookup tell me which building my broker’s server is in?
No, only a city, and MaxMind says even that is not guaranteed. Your broker can name the building, but a city is all you need to pick in your dashboard.
Does this work for MetaTrader 5?
Partly. MetaQuotes documents the server list with addresses for MetaTrader 4. For MetaTrader 5, read the address from your computer’s connection list, then follow the same steps.
Does picking the matching city change my ping?
We do not promise lower ping because distance sets the physical minimum. Our server recovers lost data inside your broker’s city when drops happen near the broker. Your traffic still travels the initial distance between your machine and our server.

MQL5 VPS location can't be chosen and its ping 'jumped'
“Please don't mix up your concepts. 2ms may be for the Ping response time, or in other words, the latency of the network communication. However, there is much more that the server has to do besides the network response”
How local trading avoids it. Pick a server city in your dashboard and switch whenever you like.
- City switchingPrimary
Where it stops. Pick a server city in your dashboard and paste the new server value into your platform. Switching city changes the address your broker sees.
MetaQuotes blocks the trader's own home or ISP address with 'No connection' on every server
“Tunneling my internet connection with a VPN made me able to have MT5 working correctly...”
How our system handles it. If your own internet address is the problem, your platform connects to our server and your broker sees our server's address instead of yours.

Where it stops. We cannot clear a block on your own address, and our server address can be blocked too. MQL5.community and Market calls may not use the platform proxy setting.
MetaTrader will not connect from the home network or SIM while the web, ping and other networks work
“Starting from Sunday I'm unable to connect my MT5 platforms from my home network. By other networks or mobile 4G it works perfectly.”
How our system handles it. Your platform connects to our server through its built-in proxy setting, and our server opens the broker connection from inside the datacenter.

Where it stops. Only if the fault is on the route to your broker, and only if your network lets you reach our server. We can't tell in advance, so try it before paying. It is not a way around a block you are not allowed to cross.
Connecting Telegram when your network blocks direct access
“Russia is reported to be planning a full block of popular messaging app Telegram on April 1, 2026.”
What our system reduces. Telegram in one tap on every plan. Telegram’s own proxy type is included on the 2-device and 5-device plans.
- Telegram in one tapPrimary
Where it stops. Telegram in one tap on every plan, plus Telegram’s own proxy type on the 2-device and 5-device plans. A network that inspects traffic can still block it.
