cTrader proxy setup on Windows

The short answer

cTrader for Windows includes native proxy settings under Settings → Advanced → Connection. Select the connection protocol, enter your four values from your dashboard, and trade directly. Running cTrader on your local desktop provides fluid DirectX chart rendering and fast order entry without remote desktop lag.

Where to find the proxy settings in cTrader on Windows

Click Settings in the bottom-left corner of the cTrader desktop interface. Navigate to Advanced → Connection, then tick the box for Use proxy to connect.

Activating the checkbox reveals fields for Server, Port, Protocol, Login, and Password. These settings configure routing only within cTrader.

Because the proxy lives inside cTrader, your other desktop programs remain on your standard internet connection.

Why native cTrader execution beats remote desktop lag

cTrader relies on hardware-accelerated DirectX graphics to render high-speed tick charts and responsive order entry screens. Running cTrader natively on your Windows desktop delivers smooth 60fps charting and immediate trade reaction.

Remote desktops compress cTrader into a video stream over the public internet. This causes noticeable mouse drag, delayed order clicks, and dropped sessions during heavy market volatility.

Traders Proxy connects cTrader directly to our server infrastructure in major trading hubs. You get direct local desktop control while your trade traffic travels over optimised network lines.

Which protocol to select in cTrader

Select HTTP in the cTrader protocol drop-down menu. Spotware documentation and user tests confirm that HTTP proxy connections work reliably with the Windows client.

While SOCKS5 is an option in the menu, user reports indicate mixed results in various broker builds. Selecting HTTP matches confirmed testing.

Warning. Check your broker’s terms

If your broker prohibits proxies, do not use one. Traders Proxy does not alter what your broker allows.

Configure cTrader proxy in five steps

  1. 01

    Select your nearest server

In your dashboard Connect tab, pick the server location nearest your trading desk from our locations list. This sets the Server address.

cTrader routes traffic through Spotware network infrastructure, so select the server nearest your physical desk.

  2. 02

    Copy your connection values

In your dashboard, open Your values and choose the cTrader tab. Copy the Server, Port, Login, and Password directly.

Your proxy password is generated in your dashboard. It is separate from your cTrader ID credentials.

  3. 03

    Open connection settings

In cTrader, click Settings in the lower-left corner. Open Advanced → Connection and tick Use proxy to connect.

  4. 04

    Enter your credentials

Select HTTP as the protocol, then enter your four dashboard values into the corresponding fields.

    Server
The Server address from your dashboard
    Port
The Port number shown in your dashboard
    Protocol
    HTTP
    Login
    Your Traders Proxy login
    Password
    Your Traders Proxy trading password

Enter your Traders Proxy credentials here rather than your broker account details.

  5. 05

    Verify connection

Save your settings and observe the connection status bar in cTrader. Prices ticking in the symbol watchlist confirm an active connection.

Confirm your connection before placing trades

Look at the latency indicator and connection status at the bottom of cTrader. Green connection indicators and updating market quotes confirm active routing.

Open your Traders Proxy account dashboard in a browser. An active device count confirms that cTrader is routing through our server.

Only cTrader routes through the proxy

The proxy configuration remains confined inside cTrader. Your web browsers, communication tools, and background file downloads stay on your local network.

Reserving proxy bandwidth for cTrader ensures that market data and order traffic never compete with non-trading downloads.

Troubleshooting common cTrader connection issues

  • cTrader shows disconnected status. Confirm that you selected HTTP as the protocol and verified the port number from your dashboard.
  • Authentication error appears. Re-copy your proxy Login and Password from your dashboard to verify that no trailing spaces were copied.
  • Settings do not take effect. Close cTrader completely and reopen the desktop application. This forces a fresh network handshake.
  • Cannot locate proxy controls. The proxy controls are available in the Windows desktop application under Settings → Advanced → Connection.

Platform availability across operating systems

The built-in proxy configuration dialog is present in cTrader for Windows desktop. Spotware provides no internal proxy configuration dialog in cTrader for macOS.

Mobile trading applications on Android and Apple devices have no built-in proxy controls. Our documented mobile proxy setup covers MetaTrader platforms on Android, and Apple mobile devices remain untested.

Frequently asked questions

Which protocol should I select in cTrader on Windows?

Select HTTP. Spotware documentation and real-world trading tests confirm clean connectivity using HTTP with cTrader for Windows.

No. Spotware does not include a proxy menu in cTrader for macOS or mobile applications. Built-in proxy settings exist only in the Windows desktop version.

cTraderReduces one factor

cTrader drops and re-logs in on a loop (Disconnected, Slow connection or Connection failed)

“Update: Dropouts seem to be entirely due to my wifi adaptor. When plugged direct into the router no problems.”

What our system reduces. Traders Proxy gives your platform its own route to its servers, which can help when your provider's route is the weak stretch. It does not fix your own Wi-Fi or router.

  • Dead connections found and freedPrimary
  • Straight back in after a dropSupporting
  • Short send queuesSupporting
  • Built-in HTTP proxy loginPrimary

Where it stops. Helps only when your provider’s route is the weak stretch. It does not fix Wi-Fi, router drops or Spotware faults, and cTrader uses HTTP only.

cTraderReduces one factor

When a provider or country blocks the direct route to cTrader

“This occurs because some countries block cTrader downloads. To solve this problem, use a VPN connection. This is the only known way to proceed with the download.”

What our system reduces. If your provider blocks the route to your platform's servers, you can send your platform through a Traders Proxy server instead. It works only if your provider lets you reach us.

  • Built-in HTTP proxy loginPrimary

Where it stops. Works only if your network lets you reach our server. cTrader on Windows uses an HTTP proxy setting and does not route the installer through it.

cTraderReduces one factor

cTrader behind an office, school or corporate network (the case the proxy setting was made for)

“I've tried, and it seems that only HTTP proxies can connect.”

What our system reduces. cTrader for Windows has a proxy setting and Traders Proxy supports it over HTTP.

  • Built-in HTTP proxy loginPrimary

Where it stops. cTrader for Windows supports an HTTP proxy login in Settings > Connection. Your local network must still allow the connection to our server.

cTraderWhen not to use a proxy

Firm location rules and copier address checks when using a proxy

“When using VPN/VPS, clients should also avoid changing their geolocation to the United States when using MetaTrader, cTrader or TradingView.”

Why a proxy can backfire here. Your broker sees one steady address, our server’s. If your trading firm restricts where you log in from, check its rules first.

Where it stops. Your broker or firm sees our server’s shared address. Check your firm’s rules before connecting, and do not use a proxy if it is forbidden.
