JForex proxy setup

The short answer

JForex has a proxy setting inside the installed platform, at Settings → Preferences → Advanced → Network Settings. Dukascopy doesn’t say which proxy types it accepts or whether it takes a login. Traders Proxy needs HTTP or SOCKS5 with a login, so open the dialog and check.

Where is the proxy setting in JForex?

In the installed JForex platform, open Settings → Preferences → Advanced → Network Settings. Dukascopy lists two options there. Use system proxy and Use proxy server. It lists the section for the installed version only.

Use proxy server points JForex alone at a proxy. Use system proxy follows your operating system’s setting.

If you set a system-wide proxy, other programs would use it too, and use your plan’s data. So choose Use proxy server.

Do you need to set up Java first?

No. Dukascopy’s guide says Java is built in to the installer, so you need no separate Java install. It offers installers for Windows, Mac and Linux.

Dukascopy documents the proxy setting inside the platform. It mentions no launcher screen or Java control panel for it.

What has Dukascopy documented, and what has it left out?

  • Documented. The setting is at Settings → Preferences → Advanced → Network Settings, with the two options Use system proxy and Use proxy server.
  • Not documented. Which proxy types are offered, and whether the setting takes a login and password.
  • Not stated. Which JForex connections the setting covers, and whether JForex needs a restart.
  • No setting documented. Web JForex and the phone app.

How do you try the proxy in JForex?

Warning. Check Dukascopy’s terms

Dukascopy’s networking page says VPN use is allowed and mentions no proxies. Check its terms before you use a proxy on a live account. If your broker prohibits proxies, don’t use one.

Try the proxy in JForex in five steps

  1. 01

    Get your values

In your dashboard’s Connect section, pick the server nearest you. Then open Your values for your platform, choose the Other tab and copy the server, port, login and password.

Dukascopy doesn’t say which connections use the setting, so we make no claim about your broker’s city on JForex.

  2. 02

    Open the setting

In JForex, choose Settings → Preferences, open Advanced, then Network Settings, and pick Use proxy server. That keeps the proxy to JForex alone.

  3. 03

    Type your values

Choose HTTP or SOCKS5, whichever the dialog offers. Type the server, port, login and password.

If the dialog offers neither type, or has no fields for a login and password, Traders Proxy can’t be used here.

  4. 04

    Save and connect

Save your Preferences and check that JForex connects and prices move.

Dukascopy states no restart rule. If JForex doesn’t connect, close it and open it again.

  5. 05

    Check your dashboard

Open your dashboard while JForex is connected. It shows your connected devices, live.

If the list stays empty, JForex isn’t using the proxy.

On JForex, we claim nothing about disconnects or fills.

Dukascopy doesn’t say which JForex connections the setting covers. So we can’t say that only your trading connection goes through Traders Proxy. On MetaTrader 4 (MT4) and MetaTrader 5 (MT5), we can.

We make no claim about disconnects or fills on JForex. Treat the setting as an experiment, and read the dashboard check for yourself.

Ping is the time data takes to go there and back. We don’t promise lower ping. Distance sets the minimum. No proxy can move your broker closer.

What about Web JForex and the phone app?

  • Web JForex runs in a browser, and Dukascopy documents no proxy setting for it. A browser or system proxy would send more than your trading tab through us.
  • The Dukascopy phone app is for monitoring positions, trading and price alerts. Dukascopy documents no proxy setting for it.
  • Our Android setup is tested with MT4 and MT5 only, so we give no JForex phone steps.

Frequently asked questions

Does JForex accept a proxy with a login?

Dukascopy doesn’t say. Its help lists Use system proxy and Use proxy server, and names no proxy types. Open the dialog, if it offers HTTP or SOCKS5 with a login, it fits.

Is the setting the same on Mac and Linux?

Dukascopy gives one path for Windows, Mac and Linux. It notes there may be differences and bugs related to Java, so check the dialog on your own system.

Does it matter if I am on Windows 10 or 11?

Dukascopy lists Windows without naming a version. We can’t confirm Windows 11 specifically, so check the dialog on your own system.

Does the proxy cover JForex API strategies?

Dukascopy doesn’t say whether the platform’s proxy setting covers strategies that run inside it. So it is unconfirmed.

What if JForex won’t connect with the proxy on?

Set the option back to what it was and confirm JForex connects without Traders Proxy. Then type the values again, and check that the login and password are your Traders Proxy ones.

Generic or free proxies fail MetaTrader's proxy Test button

“Server — enter here the IP address and port number of the server separated by a colon. To the right of this field, select the type of proxy server: HTTP, SOCKS4 or SOCKS5. In HTTP mode, NTLM authentication is also supported”

How our system handles it. Use SOCKS5 or HTTP, whichever your platform offers. Enter our server, login and password in MetaTrader’s own Proxy window.

  • Built-in SOCKS5 loginPrimary
  • Built-in HTTP proxy loginSupporting

Where it stops. MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 support SOCKS5 and HTTP (not SOCKS4). A passing Test confirms the route reaches our server.

MetaTrader 4 & 5Solves

MetaTrader 5 will not use a proxy running on the same computer

“what im talking about is that mt5 cannot connect to proxy servers on the pc , it can only connect to remote proxies but when i want to connect to 127.0.0.1 it cannot connect. for some reason it rejects the loopback address”

How our system handles it. You don't need a tunnel app on your computer. Your platform connects to our server through its own Proxy setting.

  • Own separate connection to your brokerPrimary
  • Built-in SOCKS5 loginPrimary

Where it stops. Your platform connects through its built-in Proxy window, with no extra app to install. Some MetaTrader 5 builds have separate proxy-window bugs.

MetaTrader 4 & 5Not a proxy problem

The platform's proxy setting does not cover everything (WebRequest, MQL5.community, Market)

“It seems that WebRequest ignores proxy configuration, event if configured both on MT5 and operating system.”

Why a proxy does not change this. Only the trading app you set up uses Traders Proxy. Everything else stays on your normal internet.

  • Only the app you set up is routedBoundary

Where it stops. Only the trading app you set up uses Traders Proxy. Expert Advisor web calls, custom DLLs and Market downloads may still use your normal internet.

cTraderNot a proxy problem

High server delay, slow price feed or slow fills in cTrader

“From yesterday 29/02/2024 am facing the issue of server latency going beyond 1200 ms, the proxy latency remains at 65 ms.”

Why a proxy does not change this. Traders Proxy doesn't change your broker's prices, fills or spreads, and it doesn't promise lower ping.

Where it stops. We do not change cTrader server delay, tick frequency or fills. In cTrader, our server connects onward to Spotware’s cloud node.
